Hackers are known for sending out phishing emails. Phishing emails usually contain one or more links to fake websites that will try to get you to “log in”. Once you click the link and login to the fake website, the hackers will now have the username and password that you entered on the fake website. They can now use your credentials to log in to other websites.
Below are some steps you can take to avoid becoming a victim of a phishing attack:
- Always make sure you recognize the email. If the email looks different than usual, it could be a sign that the email is a phishing email.
- Before logging into a website, ensure that the website domain is correct and that you see the padlock symbol. The padlock symbol will show in the address bar of the browser before the web address. If you have any doubt about the website, you can click the padlock to verify the domain.

- Never use the same password on different websites. If a hacker manages to obtain your username and password, they will immediately try to use the same username and password combination on other websites. For that reason, you should always use different passwords for different websites. If your browser has the ability to auto-generate a strong password, you should definitely use it.
- If you believe that you have been a target of a phishing attack, change your password immediately.
